HMOS invites you to celebrate their 70th anniversary by booking tickets for their production of ‘The Sound of Music’
Set in 1938 Austria on the eve of the Anschluss, the young Maria Rainer is failing in her attempt to become a nun. Captain Georg von Trapp has written to the convent seeking a governess who can handle his seven mischievous children and Maria is sent for the job. The Captain is often away and runs his house as his ship: with strict discipline. The children are extremely unhappy and are resentful of the governesses that their father hires, so they scare them away by playing tricks. When Maria arrives she is met with the same hostility and resentfulness, but as time goes on her kindness, understanding and sense of fun succeed in changing the children’s minds, giving them the joy they need in their lives through music and singing. The Captain and Maria find themselves falling in love, even though Georg is engaged to Baroness Schraeder and Maria is still a postulant. Their romance finds them questioning the decisions they have made but their personal conflicts soon become overshadowed by world events.
With classic musical favourites such as ‘The Sound Of Music’, ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘Do-Re-Mi’,
‘So Long, Farewell’, ‘Sixteen Going On Seventeen’ and ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’ this promises to be a truly nostalgic performance that is bound to bring childhood memories flooding back.
