We hope you will want to be a part of HMOSí next show. This firm, and often considered, funniest Gilbert and Sullivan favourite, will give you all the opportunity to have fun and shine, whether thatís as a drunken disorderly pirate, 'police personí or a fair maiden! Thereís something for everyone to do in this show, so you will not be in your dressing rooms for long! Debbi our Musical Director will be giving the music a kick-up the proverbial backside, with lots of little extras to an already brilliant musical score! Our very competent Director, John Harries Rees, will be bringing little twists at every turn and Sarah Platt, our Choreographer, will be as imaginative as ever with all the dancing!
The story concerns Frederic, who, having completed his 21st year, is released from his apprenticeship to a band of tender-hearted pirates. He meets Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley, and the two young people fall instantly in love. Frederic soon learns, however, that he was born on 29 February, and so, technically, he only has a birthday each leap year. His indenture specifies that he remain apprenticed to the pirates until his 21st birthday and that he must serve for another 63 years. Bound by his own sense of duty, Frederic's only solace is that Mabel agrees to wait for him faithfully.
This show will be performed at the Hampton Hill Theatre from the 19th to 23rd April 2016. Auditions will be before Christmas with rehearsals starting properly in January Ö so itís a shorter rehearsal period for those of you who donít like being in one production for too long.

Please read below, what John Harries Rees our Director, (he last directed us in South Pacific - May 2015) has to say about Pirates of Penzance, this funniest of Gilbert and Sullivan shows.
'The closest you will get to being on a rollercoaster ride, without actually going to an adventure park, is to be on stage in this production of The Pirates of Penzance. My intention is for it to be fast and furious, loud and absurd!
The storyline is wonderfully far-fetched and sometimes, mistakenly, it is played in pantomime style. Not in this production! The broad humour in the story and the hugely witty dialogue and lyrics, together with the colossal physicality needed, are more in keeping with the exaggerated seriousness of a Feydau farce.
Bumbling police, chasing, and being chased by, business like, soft hearted pirates, sword fights, coy maidens, distinctly bewildered main characters, mayhem, confusion everywhere and a magnificent score, all go towards making this the most popular of Gilbert and Sullivanís comic operas, which it has, arguably been for the last 136 years.
Although we shall not be using the Joseph Papp (Broadway Pirates) arrangements, themselves already 35 years old, we shall be adapting the music to suit the concept of the production. These songs are wonderful!
This will not be ď... a send up of a historic piece of theatre ..Ē but more an updated, and breathless, homage to a fantastic show, non-stop, with so, so much for the whole company to do.
Excitement, verve and joie de vivre are the words that spring to mind! Be a part of it Ė you wonít know whatís hit you!'
If you would like to be in the Ensemble only then thereís no need to audition, but please do let me know if you are interested."
